Comprehensive Exam

Central Dental Surgery places great importance on regular dental examinations.

If you are a new patient we really take the time to get to know you and your mouth.
Even if you have had regular care under another dentist, your new dentist will want to become familiar with your health.
This will allow them to recognise changes or problems during future visits.

Typically a check-up involves an external check of the muscles of the face, function of the jaw joint and salivary glands, two X-rays - one on each side of the mouth- a saliva p.H test, and thorough check of each tooth and its surrounding tissue.
If any treatment is needed we will write a comprehensive treatment plan and talk through all options available.

Dental Hygienist centraldentalsurgery

Dental Hygiene

The purpose of professional dental cleaning is to remove the hard calculus (also called tartar) from above and below the gum line.
Brushing and flossing at home (when done correctly) removes plaque but only specialist dental instruments can remove hard calculus.

Our hygienist, Kim Ongley, uses a combination of ultrasonic vibration, laser and hand instruments to remove build up from around and between teeth.

Appointment times range from 30 minutes to 60 minutes - Sometimes repeat appointments are necessary.

Visiting a dental hygienist regularly is essential to keeping a healthy smile.

Fillings, composite broken tooth centraldentalsurgery

At Central Dental Surgery we choose to use white composite filling material instead of amalgam.

This provides patients with a functional and aesthetically pleasing filling that is formed with their natural tooth colour and shape in mind.

Composite material can be used to restore the health of a tooth (replace old amalgam or fill a cavity) or to improve the look of a smile (close gaps between teeth).

Root Canal Treatment centraldentalsurgery

Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is a specialist treatment performed to restore teeth that have developed nerve damage.

This treatment helps prolong the tooth's life inside the mouth by removing the infected tissue inside the tooth and replacing it with a stronger, medicinal filling.

After a root canal, patients either have a filling placed over the tooth or a crown to keep the tooth strong and intact.

Porcelain Fused to Metal Crowns centraldentalsurgery

An established and well developed method of restoring and replacing teeth.
A crown is typically placed when a tooth has deteriorated substantially or when a Root Canal Treatment has been performed. When cared for correctly a crown will protect the tooth from further damage and cracking.

We are able to use a wide range of materials including gold, porcelain or zirconia to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing crown or bridge.
Central Dental Surgery works alongside several fantastic laboratories to create crowns that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional for the patient.

full dentures centraldentalsurgery

Dentures and Plates

Backed up by an excellent Dental Technician Laboratory here in Wellington we achieve exceptional results by replacing missing teeth with removable plastic or metal based dentures.

Dentures give the freedom to create the perfect smile to suit your face and your mouth.

miniimplants centraldentalsurgery

Mini Implants

This technology is used to improve function by stabilising complete (or full) dentures or for replacing individual missing teeth. A mini dental implant is completed with a crown for a natural look.

An implant is made of titanium and is "screwed" into the jaw bone. Although this sounds unpleasant this procedure is less invasive and improves aesthetics and function for suitable candidates at a lower cost compared to conventional implants.
